Many moons ago, when I was in college, I was the "crazy" student in my ceramics class.  That is what my instructor, Steve Smith, known as the "fish guy" by ceramists in this area, called me. Every moment I could spare I was in the art lab working on the potter's wheel, making glazes, working on slip designs and making unusual ceramic pieces inspired by nature.  Now almost 7 years later I still love ceramics, but haven't had the chance to touch a potter's wheel since I walked away from campus on graduation day.  Work, family, volunteering and other responsibilities have kept me away from pursuing this hobby I once loved and could learn to love again.

My Ceramics Blog:

The worst part of the whole thing was that I was supposed to pick up the pots from my final project from advanced ceramics a week after graduation.  The professor got to see it and told me the vases turned out really cool.  Someone got to them before I did.  The 3 vases and 2 plates were stolen right from the art lab.  So if anyone out there knows of some 3 color fairly potbelly vases not more than 12 inches tall with the name SPYKER inscribed on the bottom from the spring of '01 let me know.  I've never sold or given away any of these so if they aren't in my possession they've been stolen.

I had a big idea when I left college that I was going to buy a potter's wheel and save money for a kiln and put my own little studio in the basement of my house.  That never happened.  Now another place and a baby later I still have no wheel, no kiln and no studio.  I hope that will soon change.

In my collection of ceramic instruction and research information I have hundreds of glaze recipes, tips on form, function, testing and so forth for ceramic art.  This is where I will catalog all of that information for you to view.  If you have a specific question that you'd like answered please don't hesitate to contact me
